I found this book to be a great guide to knots - alll kinds of knots for different occasions within the categories of:
- Angler's and Still Fisherman's Knots
- Commercial Fisherman's Knots
- Knots of for Fishing Traps and Seines
- Knots for Netmaking and Repairing

Since this information can be hard to pass-on through books, its important to know that the quality of the photographs and drawings are excellent and the descriptions are clearly written. It is concerning that the quality of the book is guaranteed... I have since purchased a book exclusively on net making that I would highly recommend. It shows you the basic net knot and describes projects that use it, from shopping bags to hammocks. Check out Net Making by Charles Holdgate if you're interested - Allegro Editions prints it new.

If you want to learn knots, then this is the book for you!

Fisherman's Knots and Nets

This books contains loads of pictures that simplifies how to tie the knot. Besides the pictures, there is a text detailing each knot except where the knot is self explanatory. In addition to that, there is also the name(s) of the knot and sometimes a brief history of the knot itself. Also the author has the usage of the knot and whether it is a safe knot to use, or strictly ornamental.

The description of each knot varies with the knot itself. The book covers fisherman's knot, commercial knots, and various types of nets that can be employed to catch fish. There is also net making, including the repairing of nets which is essential even if you use the net moderately when you go fishing. This then is the "bible" of the industry.

Personally, I'm glad I bought the book. Just wish it came in hardcover instead of soft cover as hardcover books generally tend to last longer. So far, I'm halfway through the book and have tried to tie just about every knot I've read about, except for the real fancy ones - nylon string just doesn't seem to do those fancy ties justice, cordage or rope is needed.

Knots can drive you nuts!

Ever since I got interested in fishing when I was a kid, I have been troubled by knots. Not the average blood knot or the simple overhand or thumb knot, but knots to tie hooks on a line, knots to make a side line or a dropper, knots to attach weights or artificial lures to a line, knots to connect two lines, knots to finish a fly, or even knots to repair my fishing nets. Always did I wonder if I had the right knot for the job. So I did what others did before me, I picked a few knots and used them for everything. And that's how most books about knots for fishermen are written, they offer a few knots that seem good for almost anything.
This book is written differently, it contains well over three hundred knots, all shown in detailed black and white photographs and drawings, which make it quite easy for the reader to try them out. Often many different knots are offered for the same application. The descriptions are clear, tell the reader how to tie the knots, and more importantly, where to use them. This book gives you a chance to experiment with knots, there are plenty offered with alternatives to choose from. The knot descriptions are divided into four groups: 1) Angler's & still fishermen's knots, 2) Commercial fishermen's knots, 3) Knots for fishing traps and seines, and 4) Knots for netmaking and repairing.
This 'knotty' book is a valuable companion to any fisherman, pro or amateur. It will help you understand knots, and give you a better grasp of how and when to use them. There is no doubt that you will add some new knots to the few you already use when you're done with this great little book on knots!

Great explanation of what the lifestyle should be like

Ok, I admit at first I found the whole step brother premise a little weird. But this is a great book. The characters are well developed and the plot moves nicely. And let's face it, who wouldn't want hot twins catering to her? On the darker side, this book does shed light on a trouble spot in the BDSM community, abusive relationships. It's rather easy to confuse abuse with BDSM for newbies but this book explains the differences nicely.

A sophisticated book for relatively advanced players

Being unsatisfied with my level of understanding of the two over one bidding system (after a friend taught the basics to me), I read this book, which everyone told me was the authority on the subject. I found in this book a fairly complete description of a system a level or two more sophisticated than what I had previously played. Max Hardy tries to convey a great deal of information to the reader, so the text is somewhat dense and must be read slowly and carefully. Furtheremore, despite its length, the book doesn't always cover certain situations in as much depth as I would like. On a possibly related note, Max Hardy assumes that the reader has a good knowledge of standard bidding. Hence, my earlier disappointment at the lack of depth in some cases may reflect more my own lack of knowledge than any deficiency on Max Hardy's part (this is the first book I have read describing an entire bidding system).
In short, if you're interested in learning two over one, you really should read this book. Eventually. If you're a fairly inexperienced player, first finish learning standard bidding and then be prepared for a slow but informative read.

Two Over One Game Force by Max Hardy is for all competitive duplicate bridge players who want to learn this system or effectively defend against it. Since two over one is probably the most used bidding system in North America today, an understanding of the principles is essential. Though this book is ten years old, it is still the best text for learning and for reference for any partnership wishing to develop and advance their two over one knowledge. I found it to well written and concise. As with any system, it will require many hours to absorb and many hours of practice to attain proficiency, but it is a more natural system than Precision or other big club bids. It allows a game forcing bid at a low level, thus giving a partnership room to explore for the right game or slam. Expect to spend a lot of time with this volume, and to constantly return to it, but it will greatly improve your ability to find your best contract. Isn't that what it's all about?

About the Author
A physics and mathematics graduate from Texas Tech University, Samuel G. Dawson did research in celestial mechanics and intercontinental missile guidance in the aerospace industry before preparing to preach the gospel of Christ. In twenty-two years of public teaching, he did extensive live call-in radio work daily for eight years and participated in a number of religious debates. Sam’s scientific background has given him an inquisitive, logical, and thorough approach to the scriptures and a reputation for making Bible students re-think teaching they’ve taken for granted. Sam drew on decades of experience working with local congregations to write Fellowship: With God and His People: The Way of Christ Without Denominationalism; Denominational Doctrines: Explained, Examined, Exposed; and Christians, Churches, & Controversy: Navigating Doctrinal & Personal Clashes. In Marriage, Divorce, & Remarriage: The Uniform Teaching of Moses, Jesus, & Paul, Sam demonstrates how Moses, Jesus, and Paul all taught the same thing about this controversial subject. Really good reading

This book supplies the reader with important information regarding the false doctrines of the Seventh-Day Adventist, Mormons, and Jehovahs Witness. The chapters on 'Faith' and the 'Indwelling of the Holy Spirit' are excellent studies. I have studied through this book twice.

An Excellent Introduction

Romaine provides an excellent introduction to the field of bilingualism. Of the texts I have read on the topic, this is perhaps the one that finds the best balance between readability and comprehensiveness. She covers the main subfields of bilingualism, and discusses numerous studies in the field. If you're just getting into the field, this will serve as a great guide, and you'll be able to find some great resources which you'll then be able to pursue independently. I strongly recommend this as the first book to read on bilingualism. After you read this, then you can move on to more advanced texts.

Bought for a class, but enjoyed materials covered in book

I had to buy this for my FLA 499 Bilingualism and Languages in Contact class at ASU. There is a lot of material covered in the book by the author, but it's very informative and gives good references for further research on bilingualism/linguistics. Glad the professor picked this book--I still reference it for research/sources in my other linguistics classes.
