Well written detour to the author's larger work. But why not move this attraction to the main pathway?

Scipio is a talented writer, who has written close to a million words in his Summer Camp series. It's captivating and erogenous stuff. Best Laid Plans is adjunct to this as yet unfinished series. The main characters -- Paul and his two parents -- are consistent with their characters in Summer Camp. My biggest question about this piece is why it is a stand alone publication as opposed to included within the larger tome. Chronologically it still falls within the boundaries of the larger series, and carries to conclusion -- no, to climax -- one key theme of Summer Camp. Perhaps Scipio doesn't want these events to overshadow his main story, or maybe he is experimenting with other delivery/marketing avenues aside from his website. It's a great, brief read. But his fans are looking for conclusion to his primary opus.

A fun detour from the main Summer Camp storyline - well worth the money!

I've been a fan of Nick's writing for many years, since the start of the Summer Camp series. This series is extensive with a parade of characters that are very well developed. This short story is an offshoot of that work. A lot of people wonder why this isn't part of the larger series or decry that this is distracting from him finishing the main Summer Camp series. My take is that (a) it's a great standalone like some of the fan fiction that's come from Nick or Big Ed (b) anyone that begrudges Nick trying to make a little money from what has been a giant labor of love (not to mention FREE) really doesn't understand how much work something like this is and frankly doesn't show any respect to Nick at all. This story is a fun side adventure and well worth the paltry cost to read it. It's fun to see Beth as a focus. I'm looking forward to seeing if there's a story where Erin appears with Paul.

Erotica often gets pushed to the "Harlequin Romance" side of the house and doesn't get respect. Nick, in my estimation, is a fantastic wordsmith and creates characters you actually are interested in and care about. This story draws five stars from me for being playful, fun, smart and entertaining. It might help to have read Summer Camp up to date first, though, for best effect, though it can stand independently.

Summer Camp Surprise!

Nick Scipio is a author with a talent to write books that keep me interested in what is happening with the many characters that interact within his writings. The Best Laid Plans is a book that bridges the story from Summer Camp where it finished until the next book in the Summer Camp saga can be finished and published for readers. It records the family activities between Paul Hughes, his mom Elizabeth, and his dad. I won't divulge the content of this book, it is for the reader to discover on his or her own. I will say that Summer Camp is a work that can be expanded with sequels based on the Hughes family and other families who were friends of the Hugheses. I will also say that readers who may be interested in nudism and the nudist lifestyle will find a well-developed theme of nudism that has lots of surprises and twists. I highly recommend this Summer Camp saga to any reader. If you start reading you will seriously be hooked by the dynamics and personalities of the developed characters that become life-size beings that you can relate to.

I absolutely loved this boxed set. Star was such an interesting and likeable character I couldn't wait to keep reading about her exploits. Plus, the chemistry between her and Rick was explosive! The love scenes were incredibly sensual and the writing was absolutely beautiful. Can't wait to read more from this author.

Scorching Hot, Fearless, and Sensual - Fantastic!

As always Jayne Rylon is fearless and ambitious in her writing style. I loved this heroine so much I can't even put it into words. Her career as a prostitute isn't just a job to her, it's about helping individuals who need another human's touch. While that concept could come off clich� or awkward if written wrong; Ms. Rylon did a fantastic job of showing us Star's heart and soul, so that we really believed that she was in it for the right reasons. When she meets the man of her dreams, and finds herself in a difficult situation it doesn't come across as contrite. I felt every emotion, and Sweet Jesus I felt every orgasm! This series was SCORCHING hot, romantic, dramatic, and it is absolutely one of my favorite pieces of Jayne Rylon's work. Well done.

A surprise!

I was looking for something different to read and boy did I get it! I really enjoyed the relationship between Sarah and Rick. It was very intense and on a level that is quite rare! I would recommend this book to anyone that likes this genre. The only thing that I took a very small issue with was the ending. I felt it was a bit abrupt. I wanted just a bit more.

BAUHAUS FUNDAMENTALS

This thin volume is a wonderful collection of essays on the typography, design and graphic design of this school that can be considered the heralding in of moderism.
The layout of the book, sparse and clean, was designed by the editors, Joanne Savio and Mike Mills in a manner that adheres to Bauhaus design principles. Well illustrated throughout with examples of the works of Bauhaus artists, the book is a pleasure to look as well as to read.

About the Author
Nicolae Lobontiu, Ph.D is associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage. His teaching background has run the gamut of mechanical engineering, including: system dynamics, controls, instrumentation and measurement, mechanics of materials, dynamics, vibrations, finite element analysis, boundary element analysis, and thermal system design.

Professor Lobontiu’s research interests for the last decade have focused on compliant mechanisms (mechanical devices which move by elastic deformation of their flexible joints) and micro/nano electromechanical systems. He has authored four books and 20 peer-reviewed journal papers on the aforementioned research topics.

Nicolae Lobontiu, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, brings his years of experience teaching classes in system dynamics, as well as the knowledge gleaned from writing four related previous texts -- Dynamics of Microelectomechanical Systems; Mechanical Design of Microresonators; Mechanics of Microelectromechanical Systems; and, Compliant Mechanism: Design of Flexure Hinges -- to produce this solid text for students entering this emerging field.

The discipline of system dynamics focuses on teaching students "how to create and analyze mathematical models of dynamic, mechanical, electrical/electromagnetic, thermal, and fluid/pneumatic systems" for the purpose of designing and then testing systems before they are actually built. While the author retains a classical approach, Lobontiu also introduces examples from compliant mechanisms and microscale devices and machines.

Consideration is given to mechanical engineering problems for junior and senior-level undergraduate students in support of mechanical, aerospace, electrical, biomedical and civil engineering courses and explores mechanism and movement in springs and joints present in "micro-machined, lithographic based devices to traditional models of microscale, fluidic, and electromechanical systems." Offers a "foundation and framework for the development of controllers applied to these dynamical systems." Includes examples and problems at the end of each chapter to familiarize readers with the modeling and dynamical systems engineers are likely to encounter in the future.

I'm very pleased with this textbook. Since I'm auditing a course I can be far more selective in what portions I want to dive into and which ones I'm content to skim. So it was great to see that each chapter starts with a detailed list of objectives that clearly outline the concepts and topics covered (often with references to supporting topics in other chapters). I'm finding that to be a highly effective way to discern which chapters are worth really getting into, and which ones I'm content to just get the general gist.

The writing style is clear and direct. There are many worked-through examples (but, if I had my druthers, I'd like to see a few more, especially concerning liquid systems modeling). The suggested reading list at the conclusion of each chapter is a bit sparse, but generally current (at least as current as it could be in a printed text). The summary of MATLAB commands in the Appendix has been invaluable so far.

I am, however, very disappointed that I can't seem to gain access to the online supplemental material. The book states that there is a bonus online chapter and, more importantly, downloadable MATLAB code for the examples in the text. I've tried to access this info using the URL provided in the book, but all I get is caught in a loop that goes nowhere. I've only tried it using IE, so perhaps it's a browser issue. I won't downgrade the rating for the book due to this since it may be a problem on my end, but it is a disappointment.

UPDATE: 1/6/11 -- the publisher was kind enough to provide an updated URL (see the first comment below for the link) and it works fine. It allows access to a bonus chapter 11 (PDF format), add-ons for several existing chapters (PDF) and a Word doc containing the MATLAB code that you can cut and paste. Great supplemental material (especially the MATLAB code).

This book fills the gap between an entry level 100 level course for engineering students and the 400 or masters level. The Alaska based author does a great job filling this book cover to cover with well organized text, examples and illustrations. Additionally online content is available at booksite.academicpress.com/lobontiu/student.php

This is recommended for current engineering students or those graduated who want a practical desk reference.

Another Great Read

I've read every book to date, so I guess that makes me a Dr. Fingal Flaherty O'Reilly groupie. I was looking forward to finding out what happened to his first wife, Deidre, and now that chapter is closed. Patrick Taylor's depiction of O'Reilly's experience in World War II was both interesting and informative as he always stays close to true events and "the way things were" in the time period about which he is writing. To me, it was another great read about one of my favorite characters. But, then, I love all the characters in Taylor's Irish Country Doctor series.

Irish Country series are wonderful stories.

We're hooked on Patrick Taylor's Irish Country series. If you liked James Herriot's books about a veterinarian's life in rural England between the wars, you'll probably enjoy these books. Taylor's setting varies within the series between late 1930s-1940s to 1960s in a small Irish town. The primary character is a general practitioner physician with the townspeople and others as supporting characters. Begin with Irish Country Doctor to become familiar with setting and personalities. Then continue the series, coming to be very fond of the interactions.

This is undoubtedly the best book series I have ever read. The inhabitants of Ballybucklebo are more than acquaintances, they are family. The tale spans decades giving an insight into the customs and traditions of the times. There are also history lessons that are subtlety sprinkled throughout the story. Prepare to be transported to a wonderful small village in the land of the Emerald Isle

not complete book

total bs that first chapters r free, then 2nd chapters r $0.99 then the last chapters r another $0.99. Was the author really that hard up for money that she couldn't wait until the entire book was completed before release? Lame.

The story itself was not that great. It was drawn out and the hero was not really nice. The heroine is almost trance like in her lust for the hero which is annoying since he is there to take away her nephews. It reads like it could be over 30 chapters long because nothing happens up to this point in the book. There is no in depth background to any of the characters and the sudden violence/attack is not explained (maybe it will be in the next chapters).

From what i read so far, i would not invest another dime into these books/chapters. There is a lot of questions that go unanswered that i highly doubt could be answer to my satisfaction in the next 3 chapters. I would not recommend this book/ 3 chapters of an incomplete book. Waste of time and space.

Okay so I bought this "book" thinking it would be a quick nice read, and for $0.99 i didn't bother to get a sample. I completely regret it. I was expecting to get a book and instead got an excerpt of a book. I should have paid attention to the chapters 10-12 part in the title. I thought it was a continuation of series. no, its a section of one book and jumps right to the middle of the story. Seriously? WTF. Maybe it would have been alright if it was one book with a beginning, middle and end, but right now I am angry I even bought this book. Why would the author split up the book? It makes no sense.

Please before you buy read chapters 1-9 review. I am not a fan but since this presented as series instead of a book, I decline to write three separate reviews. It's a waste of my time.
